This Chinese style wooden chest belonged to Madam Tok Gek Siam, who migrated to Singapore from China in 1917 at the age of 15. She was married off as the third wife to Teo Bah Tan, the brother of Teo Eng Hock. Both were avid supporters of Sun Yat Sen's revolutionary efforts.This chest was the only possession that Madam Tok brought along from China.
