This is an original Davis brand tennis racquet made of wood with its cover. Such racquets were commonly used before the invention of aluminium composite racquets. Peranakans in Singapore would very often engage in social activities that associated them with the colonial elite such as horse racing and tennis. This earned the community the title of "King's Chinese".
