Thie wine cup is decorated with peonies that symbolise spring, love, beauty and good fortune. This cup may have come with a wine warmer. Hot water is poured into the vessel to warm the cup, which is placed inside, in preparation for drinking rice wine. The practice of drinking from such cups was not a frequent event in a Peranakan home as many older Peranakans today have no recollection of using wine warmers.
