These buttons were worn in sets of five or seven together with the ‘baju panjang’ or long tunic. Each button consists of a decorative front with floral motifs and loops that would pass through the button holes and be attached from behind with a ring or cross piece. Buttons for males were usually made from materials such as bakelite, ivory or bone while those made for females could be made from filigree gold, gilt silver or diamonds.
