Fly with me to another world

Born in 1971 in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Navin Rawanchaikul is a Thai artist who has developed a unique body of work that relies heavily on team spirit and collaboration mined in local communities and everyday life experiences. Navin has exhibited in numerous international venues with solo shows at institutions such as New York’s PS1 Contemporary Art Center (2001) and the Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2002). His works have also been featured at the Tate Triennale Altermodern at Tate Britain, UK (2009).‘Fly with Me to Another World’ is one of Navin’s most ambitious projects and is an ongoing documentary and community-based work that honours the life of legendary senior Thai artist Inson Wongsam. Comprising movie poster paintings as well as a publication of old photos, news clippings and interviews about Inson’s life, the project was exhibited in several venues including Inson’s hometown of Lamphun in northern Thailand. As part of the project, Navin also produced a fibreglass sculpture of Inson on his iconic scooter as well as another of himself on his own scooter, signifying his love for adventure, travel and possibility.
