This book was written by Carl Alexander Gibson Hill (b. 1911 – d. 1963), the last British Director of the Raffles Museum in Singapore. He was also the President (1956-1961) of the Malayan Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society and as the Society's journal Editor (1948-1961).
