This bowl is decorated with a pair of fishes amidst waves at the centre, and covered with a crackled glaze. Twin fishes are a popular motif in Chinese art, and was often applied onto ceramics from the Tang dynasty. 'Twin fish' dishes were an especially popular product of the Longquan kilns in Zhejiang province during the Southern Song to Yuan dynasties. The twin-fish motif represents abundance, marital bliss and conjugal fidelity.
