This is the flag of the Federation of Malaya. The 11 pointed stars and the 11 alternating red and white horizontal lines represent the Malayan states: Kedah, Perlis, Penang, Pahang, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Johor, Malacca, Kelantan and Terengganu. It was adopted with the creation of the Federation of Malaya and used from 1950 to 1963. Modifications were made to the flag in 1963 to represent the three new states: Sarawak, Sabah and Singapore.
