This finely-painted design consists of a flowering prunus tree and butterflies surrounding a stylised chrysanthemum medallion. The asymmetrical decoration and translucent enamels suggest Kakiemon influence, while the colours (red, green, turquoise, aubergine, yellow) and gilding are derived from the Imari palette. The Chelsea factory, one of the earliest porcelain factories established in England, was in production by around 1745. Chelsea focused on producing fine table wares and decorative figures for the English elite.
