The 30-storey United Overseas Bank Building was the tallest landmark in the city centre when it was completed in 1974 (left centre). However, it was overtaken as the highest structure in the area when the 52-storey Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Centre (right centre) was completed in 1976.Another new structure built as part of the urban renewal plan was the 31-storey High Street Centre (left) residential, office and shopping complex, which was completed in 1974.
