The Britannia Club

Seen in the centre of the picture, the old Britannia Club was run and managed by the British Navy, Army, Armed Forces Institution (NAAFI) and the Women’s Voluntary Service in the 1950s at Beach Road. It was a popular place for recreation and social purposes for both the military personnel and their families. In 1972, with the British withdrawal the Government of Singapore took over the facility for the Singapore Armed Forces. It was then renamed the SAF Warrant Officers and Specialists Club up till 2001. At this time, the club was famous for its SAFE Superstore which provided basic necessities at low and affordable prices. The building is currently not in use.
