This fabric envelope was carried by the matchmaker during the wedding ceremony and would have contained 5 types of red threads. The donor, Mdm Liong (also Mrs Aow), is Pu-Tian Fujianese and was married in Sembilan, Malaysia, on 8 May 1950. She and her husband came to Singapore in 1961 with their children and have lived here since.
