This collar of this brown floral silk blouse is decorated beautiful flower buttons while the side of the sam is secured by four similar floral buttons. The tailor used double piping to further accentuate the tight fitting silhouette of the blouse. The sam is most likely worn with a knee length or slightly below the knee skirt, a fashion which was popular at that time. This blouse belonged to Mrs Kwok Swee Ying, the donor’s mother, Mr Kenson Kwok. Mrs Kwok was born in KL in 1914. In 1953 she moved with her family from Penang to Singapore. Her husband Kwok Chan Kwan (Alfred) was the General Manager of Lee Wah Bank. Mrs Kwok probably wore this sam before she married her husband in the 1930s.
