South bank of the Singapore River near Coleman Bridge

This picture was taken from the north bank of the Singapore River near the point where Coleman Bridge (right centre) linked Hill Street with New Bridge Road on the south bank. The original Coleman Bridge was erected in 1840, with subsequent replacement structures built in 1865, 1888 and 1990. The HDB housing complex (centre) on the south bank was constructed on the site where the Ellenborough Market once stood before it was destroyed by a fire in the 1970s.
