This is an embroidery box, possibly crafted from teak. It could be used to store the various tools and materials used in embroidery, such as silk threads. The painted motifs in gold include two Chinese men fishing by the river and under a large tree. A pair of birds fly slightly above. Embroidery and beadwork was a necessary skill for the Nyonyas before the war and served as a social function.
