This postcard is produced by Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia), which started operating a new flight service between Singapore and the Saudi cities of Jeddah and Riyadh in 1982. The airline decided to promote Singapore as a tourist destination in a bid to encourage more Saudi travellers to use the new service route. This postcard in particular shows the Central Business District at the mouth of the Singapore River. Prominent landmarks depicted include: the Elgin Bridge (foreground), the original structure being erected in 1863 and named after Lord Elgin, Governor General of India (1862-1863), before a new bridge with the same name replaced it in 1929; the 30-storey United Overseas Bank (UOB) Building (left centre), which was the tallest landmark in the city centre when it was completed in 1974; and the 52-storey Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC) Centre, which overtook the UOB Building as the highest structure in the area when it was completed in 1976 (right centre).
