View of Marina South, Singapore Harbour, Fullerton Building, Anderson Bridge and Old Supreme Court Building

This postcard shows a view of the Singapore Harbour with the Marina South strip of reclaimed land in the distance. Three phases of land reclamation works carried out between the 1970s and 1990s eventually resulted in the creation of the Marina Bay at the mouth of the Singapore River. Prominent landmarks captured near the mouth of the river include: Anderson Bridge (centre foreground), which was completed in 1910 as a replacement for Cavenagh Bridge situated further upriver and named after Sir John Anderson, Governor of the Straits Settlements and High Commissioner for the Federated Malay States (1904-1911); the Fullerton Building (second from right), officially opened in 1928 by then Governor Sir Hugh Clifford and subsequently used to house government offices and the General Post Office; and the Old Supreme Court Building (right foreground) with its distinctive neoclassical dome, built in 1939 at the site of the Grand Hotel de l'Europe.
