Clifford Pier and Change Alley Aerial Plaza

Clifford Pier was named after Sir Hugh Clifford who served as Governor to Singapore from 1927-1929. The Pier was built by local Singaporean contractors Woh Hup and was officially opened in June 1933. The pier was a busy landing and departing point but was disrupted during the Japanese Occupation. The Japanese then used the pier to ship goods and people around Singapore. After the Japanese surrender, and with Singapore's independence, the pier has been redeveloped a number of times. Today the pier is being conserved and is no longer in operation so as to make way for the residential and commercial activities of the Marina Bay area that surrounds it.
