This earring belonged to the late Mrs. Seow Peck Leng. Mrs. Seow was elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1959 and was one of the first woman parliamentarians in Singapore. After retiring from politics in 1965, Mrs. Seow devoted herself to various social and community causes. A firm supporter of women’s rights, she was a founding member of the Singapore Women’s Association (SWA) and had served as President of the Federation of Asian Women’s Association and the Singapore Council of Women’s Organizations (SCWO).Mrs. Seow passed away in April 2007.
