This silver square Qur'anic amulet container has a dome-shaped lid. It is decorated with floral and foliate motifs and a central medallion. This amuletic container was worn for protective reasons and probably used to hold either a miniature Qur’an or a piece of paper with a Qur’anic verse. For Muslims, the Qur'an is the visual embodiment of the Word of God and is considered sacred. This particular container highlights the perceived protective powers of the Qur’an to Muslims. Muslims also wear talismanic shirts and caps for spiritual protection.
