The Straits Chinese British Association (SCBA) was one of the many early Straits Chinese clubs. Forerunner to the Peranakan Association in Singapore, it was founded on 17 August 1900, serving as a voice for Straits-born Chinese. The association was strongly inclined towards British ideas and lifestyle, its initial leaders having mainly been educated in Britain. For 40 years, the SCBA served as fertile ground for grooming educated Straits Chinese leaders. The SCBA in Singapore is now known as the Peranakan Association.
