The Oriental Singapore hotel was part of the Marina Centre development. The ambitious project was conceived as a “city-within-a-city”, consisting of a cluster of three luxury hotels, the other two being the Marina Mandarin and Pan Pacific Hotels, as well as a giant shopping mall, the Marina Square. Built in June 1984, the Oriental Singapore was the second of the three hotels to be completed but was officially opened only in February 1987, owing to delays in the construction programme of Marina Square. The hotel is managed by the Hong Kong-based Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.
