This opium bed features very ornate carvings of various motifs with the side panels also decorated with Chinese figurative scenes and poetry. One outstanding feature of this bed is the ornately carved lion dog leg supports. Ornately carved and decorated pieces like this opium bed were primarily commissioned by wealthy merchants in Singapore for use in their homes and their shops.
