Siege of Lanka

This fine painting is a complex composition. It illustrates the palace of Ravana, the monkey army of Rama attacking its fort walls and Rama-Lakshmana having a meeting with the monkey chief, Hanuman, in the background. The presentation of the simultaneous narrative is a feature of this painting, which is typical of the epic painting style of Guler-Kangra influenced by the Indian and the Mughal painting traditions.
