This is a grey pantsuit consisting of a single-breasted jacket with lining, a narrow notched lapel and a matching pair of wide-legged trousers. This piece belonged to Mr. Tan Kang Chai and was specially custom made for his wedding by his father, who ran a tailor shop named ‘Kwong Nam Tailor’ at 413 North Bridge Road in Singapore.Western style wedding customs and dress were first adopted by the Eurasians and Straits Chinese from the early part of the 20th century and gradually gained popularity with the other communities in Singapore over the decades.
