This is a statutory declaration made by Haji Abdullah bin Omar concerning his translation of the power of attorney issued by Syed Salleh bin Ahmed bin Indroos of Mastha in Hadhramaut on 10 August 1918. Haji was a Singapore trader residing at No. 52 Buffalo Road, Singapore. He certified that he was “well acquainted with Arabic and Malay languages” and that he made “this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true and by virtue of the Provisions of the Statutory Declaration Act 1835.” This document is part of the John Koh collection which comprises of various legal documents in Arabic, Jawi, and English, and serves as a record of the 19th and early 20th century colonial legal systems in Singapore and the interactions of various ordinary individuals with the law.
