Designed by John Turnbull Thomson, the Dalhousie Obelisk was built in the 1850s to honour the visit of the Marquis of Dalhousie, the Governor General of India. Standing next to it is Victoria Memorial Hall - Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall today - which was completed in 1906, displaying a mix of Classical and Renaissance elements.
