This book records the arrival and departure of female and child migrants staying at the Kam Lun Tai lodging house. Each entry was initialled by an officer from the Social Welfare Department. In 1947, the Department started to screen women and children to assure they were bona fide migrants with the prerequisite identity certificates. Young girls often arrived in Singapore en route to the Federation of Malaya or Sarawak. If they did not possess complete papers, they were detained at these homes until their benefactors sent relevant information to the Social Welfare Department.
