Construction on the Singapore-Johore Causeway started in 1919 and it was officially opened by Governor and High Commissioner Sir Laurence Guillemard on 28 June 1924. The Causeway linked Singapore with Malaya (later Malaysia) and it remains in operation today.Singapore island can also be seen on the left side of the photograph.
