Tanglin Besar School was a Malay-medium school in Singapore. Malay education thrived when the People’s Action Party came into power in 1959. Enrolment to Malay-medium schools rose tremendously in the following years. However, due to the emphasis on industrialisation in the 1960s, Malay parents started to send their children to English-medium schools. Malay-medium schools eventually closed down in the 1980s.
