This is a ration card issued by the Food Control Department to control the supply of rice and other essential items in the 1950s. Rations were distributed through authorised shopkeepers. Food control was a significant part of the British strategy to combat the communist insurgency during the Malayan Emergency, as strict rationing deprived insurgents of food and logistical supplies.
