This necklace is decorated with shell pendants and glass beads. This necklace comes from the Yami people who live on a small island southeast from the Taiwanese mainland. For subsistence, they rely heavily on the resources of the ocean. The Taiwanese Aborigines, of which there are nine main groups, are descendants of the first Austronesians. Hence, many elements of their material cultures have similarities seen in other Austronesian cultures.
