Made from batik, the ‘kain sarong’ is a length of cloth which is sewn together at the ends to form a tube. The wearer steps into the tube and the ‘kain sarong’ is folded, tucked and tightened to become a skirt. The sarong is usually worn by the Peranakan Chinese ‘nyonyas’ with the ‘kebaya’ (form-fitting blouse) or ‘baju panjang’ (long tunic). This particular sarong features floral and butterfly motifs.
