This bone apron is carved out of human and animal bones. The bones are carved into beads and elliptical plaques - the latter with images of dakini (female divinity of low rank) and other Tantric Buddhist deities on them. There are nine plaques sewn on a band of cotton. These are strung together into a net of criss-crossing beads and spacers. Bone aprons, crowns and armlets are worn by tantric practitioners for rituals invoking the fierce deities.
