This gilded arch was erected only during a funeral and placed in front of the coffin. It features carvings of Chinese figures, mythical scenes and dragons on the upper structure. The two carved bases feature Kim Tong (Golden Boy) and Geok Lee (Jade Maiden), characters often found on Peranakan Chinese funerary items because of their association with filial piety and Ting Kong (Jade Emperor). It is believed the carvings link the celestial realm and the mortal world. Like many pieces of Peranakan furniture, the funeral arch is draped with silk embroideries when used. Attached to this gateway would be silk curtains in colours similar to that of the coffin cover. A table with candlesticks, offerings and a mounted photograph of the deceased is also placed in front of the arch.
