This round, symmetrical ornament was made by casting and granulation. This could have been worn at the ear, and ear ornaments were worn by men and women alike. It has also been suggested that such an ornament with a gap in its loop could have been used to hold cords around the waist, or placed in coiffures. Besides personal adornment, gold was also used to make religious items during this period.
