Teacup

This teacup belongs to a group of Cultural Revolution propaganda items. The motif on this teacup follows the ballet poses of Xi’er in The White-Haired Girl. Xi’er is a peasant girl abused by a tyrannical landlord. She flees into the mountains and her hair turns white from the harsh experience of living for years in the wilderness. The design on the teacup shows Xi’er reuniting with her fiancé, Wang Dachun. Wang who had joined the People’s Liberation Army is shown guiding Xi’er forward.
