The ear ornament was made from casting, and its open oval shape is similar to ear ornaments found in Oc Eo in South Vietnam and island Southeast Asia. Although Java was already in contact with India, Javanese jewellery of this period bears more similarities with their counterparts in the Philippines and South Vietnam, than those in India. This period also saw the beginning of using heat to work gold and the use of techniques like casting and soldering. Such was the sophistication of the techniques that it is possible that gold working had become a specialised occupation by this time.
