The characters on this armband identify this piece as belonging to a “Red Rebel” from a “Red Rebel Group”. Red armbands such as these were worn by individuals who had rallied to Mao’s revolutionary cause during the early years of the Cultural Revolution. There were many factions in the Red Guard movement and many different units emerged as the Revolution progressed.
