This is a poster welcoming visitors to Clementi MRT station. Although the idea of the MRT was first suggested in the 1960s, construction only began in May 1982 as Singapore did not have the financial ability to complete the mammoth task. Construction of the MRT system was finally made possible as a result of Singapore’s rapid economic growth in the 1970s. Construction was done in two phases. Phase 1, which included the construction of Clementi MRT station, was completed by March 1988, while Phase 2 was completed in 1990.
