This unglazed, stoneware bowl was constructed on a Yuan dynasty (1279-1368) Yaozhou mould. It is biscuit-fired and is somewhat warped. The bowl was made by Mr. Chua Soo Kim, a potter with the Sam Mui Kuang Pottery in Singapore. According to Mr. Chua, the mould was high-fired and did not absorb water readily from the clay, accounting for some warpage. The mould was also not carved originally, but instead taken from the carved decoration on another bowl that provided the original mould. The Yaozhou kilns at Tongchuan county in Shaanxi started to produce celadons around the 10th century. According to the Song dynasty (960-1279) annals, these good-quality wares were presented to the Song court.
