The longhouse of Sarawak can accommodate about 200 to 800 people in 20 to 80 units depending on its size, where each family is given a private unit. Communal areas such as the gallery and open decks are used for social activities and drying clothes respectively. Built on wooden stilts at least six metres above the ground, longhouses are made of timber and have high, sloping roofs.
