This is a Yaozhou stoneware shard with carved decoration. Stoneware is a type of ceramic with a grey or pale cream body fired to about 1200 degrees Celsius. The olive green tone of the glaze is attributed to the presence of iron in the glaze, which turns a warmer tone of green after reduction firing (a kiln atmosphere without oxygen).
