Being Deputy Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore from 1981 to 1982 was one of the many varied positions the late Mr Lim Kim San held during his distinguished public service career. Born in 1916 and having survived the Japanese Occupation, Mr Lim became an early millionaire and was a director of several banks before he joined the civil service. Apart from serving as a former Singapore Cabinet member, minister of finance, education, defence, environment, communications and national development, he was also executive chairman of Singapore Press Holdings and chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisors, among other appointments.
