The Kashkul is a Persian word for begging bowl. It usually takes the form of a bowl suspended by a chain, which is hung from the shoulder of a dervish, in which he puts alms and food. The Kashkul is denoted with palmettes, scrolling vines and inscriptions. The dervish is a mystic who understands voluntary poverty and asceticism.
