This thickly-potted ewer has a cup-shaped mouth, globular body and a curved spout. It is decorated with incised bands around shoulders and covered with pale olive-green glaze. The ewer is typical of the early trade wares found in Southeast Asia, especially the Philippines and Indonesia. It was probably exported during the Northern Song period (960-1126), Chinese ceramics were highly prized in these regions as ceramics of the same quality could not be produced locally.
