This double-sided jewel was originally a portrait but the addition of a pin and clasp on the gold frame adapted it for use as a brooch. A portrait of a Parsi woman is on one side while the other displays a photograph of a man in high headgear and wearing a traditional Parsi male attire.Following a western fashion, miniature portraits were often framed in precious locket or as pendants. This was done to commemorate relatives or friends, both living and passed as well as recognise the meritorious work of an individual.
