This vessel also known as a kendi would have been made by coiling and hand-building several parts, which were then joined together. Southeast Asian potters often improved the appearance and durability of their ceramic wares through burnishing, a technique in which the vessel was polished when it was leather-hard to produce a shiny patina as in this piece.
