Vase/Umbrella Stand

This large, cylindrical object is an example of Peranakan ware decorated with overglazed polychrome enamels. The finely painted designs comprise typical Chinese auspicious motifs such as phoenix, peony and plum blossoms. It was probably imported from the kilns of Jindezhen in China for Straits Chinese customers. It was probably used as umbrella stand or possibly as scroll holder.
