This covered jar has a lotus bud handle and the same hand-painted iron-oxide motifs under a greyish-white glaze on the lid and body. The motifs include concentric circles, alternating panels of cross-hatching and vegetal scrolls on the top and bottom of the jar. Each panel is separated by raised lines. The royal cities of Sukhothai and Si Satchanalai in north-central Thailand were at the heart of one of the largest ceramic-producing centres in Southeast Asia during the 14th century. Si Satchanalai, which was later renamed Sawankhalok, came to refer to ceramics that originated from either of these two areas.
